On top of that comes this piece of jolly news: Shin Bet chief warns of large-scale confrontation in Gaza.
Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said Tuesday morning that “Israel must prepare for a wide military confrontation in the Strip, if moderate sources in the Palestinian Authority do not get stronger”.So, this is what it has come to. The worlds insistance that the Arabs to the north and south of Israel just want to lead a normal, happy life if they'd only be left alone by big, bad Israel has painted Israel into a corner. Intervention in Gaza will activate Hizbollah, intervention in the Lebanon will activate Hamas (and the French ofcourse, apparently they're all too eager to shoot some Zionists. Par for the course). And not intervening will activate both at a time of *their* chosing, which is an even worse situation.
Speaking at a Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Diskin outlined the Palestinians' efforts to arm and noted that, "If all fails and it become impossible to strengthen Fatah, Israel needs to prepare for a military option in Gaza. The situation in the Strip is not a flashing traffic light but a red, red, red, light. Israel has no good options in Gaza, there only bad options and we need to chose the least bad of all."
It is all too well known that Hizbollah is being re-armed through active assistance by both Syria and Iran. However, to the south, in Gaza, he re-armament is actively assisted by yet another of the Wests 'friends' in the region:
Likud MK Yuval Steinitz responded to comments made by Shin Bet Chief Yuval Diskin before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee saying, "Egypt is adopting a deliberate policy of arming terror groups in Gaza and it is doing to us in the south what Syria did to us with Hizbullah in the north."Anyone else smell a conspiracy here? You have to hand it to the Mid East: they've been paying attention to the news in the West. They've realized that our main weakness is taking a stand. Death by a thousand cuts will work nicely, since each cut on its own is not enough to energize the West. The West is only looking at one cut at a time, disregarding all others. Pigheadedly, the West refuses to look at the big picture. That might mean confronting some ugly truths that don't quite mesh with the 'End of History'.
And thus we slowly bleed to death. Unless we find in some forgotten corner our own self-esteem and pride of culture it looks like for the West time has truely come and gone.
[INSTANT UPDATE] And to round off the good news: Iran to be 'fully nuclear soon'. Weltrusten...
