A true modern-day hero

The Victoria Cross (or VC) is the highest possible honour bestowed upon a member of the armed services. It is awarded for
"... most conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy."
In the tradition of the Common Wealth armed services a bearer of VC is saluted by all ranks, even the superior ones.

Our latest addition to the blogroll, England Expects (1), relays the citation of the most recent recipient of this honor: Corporal Bill Henry Apiata VC. True heroism is still to be found, fortunately. Just a pity we hear so rarely about it.

(1) Which is making up for a lapse that has been going on for far too long. Together with EU Referendum, EE is one of the blogosphere's most vocal and to-the-point critics of EU shenanigans. And it's a pleasant read to boot.
