All you need to know about the EUnion

Daniel Hannan writes about the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durrão Barroso and his particular views on the use and beneficence of the EUnion: The EU is an antidote to democratic governments, argues President Barroso. The reason we need the EU, he suggests, is precisely because it’s not democratic. Left to themselves, elected governments might do all sorts of things simply to humour their voters.

Apparently El Presidente has said:
Governments are not always right. If governments were always right we would not have the situation that we have today. Decisions taken by the most democratic institutions in the world are very often wrong.
Very often wrong? By whose standards? One would think that decisions made in democratic institutions make the right decisions, according to a majority of its members or voters. But apparently the common folk voting in these institutions are 'very often wrong'.

Isn't this quote not exactly what you need to know about the true nature if the EUnion? (via Sue)
