Breaking: Geert Wilders acquitted on all counts

The Amsterdam court has announced the verdict in the Wilders trial. Geert Wilders has been acquitted on all counts (NL, short EN report here).

Pamela is following closely. Al-Jazeera is reporting here, the Jerusalem Post here (linked, because they were the first big international MSM sources). RNW encapsulates the entire year-and-a-half circus here.

(minor update: The BBC have finally recovered from the initial shock: Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders has been acquitted of all charges of inciting hatred against Muslims).

Wilders is a free man again. And because of this we all are (still) allowed to say what we think. This is a good day!

[UPDATE001] Thoughtfully as ever, His Grace shines his light on the verdict: "Rejoice! This is a marvellous day for democracy and for liberty".

[UPDATE002] Ferdy noticed that while Geert Wilders was fully vindicated, the court nevertheless thought to interject its opinion in its verdict:
Today the Amsterdam court ruled that Wilders is NOT guilty on all accounts. But although the court was very clear that Mr. Wilders did not break the law, the court found it necessary to declare in their sentencing of Mr. Wilders that his statements were: “rude”, “offensive” and “derogatory”. The Amsterdam court also declared they found Wilders movie “shocking” although not illegal. Also the court declared that some of his statements were “on the edge of what is permissible”.
Also from Ferdy: The complete ruling can be found here (NL).

[UPDATE003] From the mailbox. The PVV released the following statement:
This morning the Court of Amsterdam has acquitted Geert Wilders of all charges.

“I am delighted with this ruling,” says Geert Wilders. “It is a victory, not only for me but for all the Dutch people. Today is a victory for freedom of speech. The Dutch are still allowed to speak critically about islam, and resistance against islamisation is not a crime. I have spoken, I speak and I shall continue to speak.”

ruling is not only a victory for me, but for all Dutch people. Today is a

I'm glad that Wilders has been acquitted. But why do I get the feeling that this is just a hiatus. The political ruling class elite and their satraps will be scrutinizing each word of Wilders to see if he can be tried again. So we can criticize Islam but not Muslims. Why the distinction? Does this mean that in the Netherlands it is illegal to criticize any group of people on the basis of race, religion, or nationality? Is it illegal to criticise Chinese (race), Americans( nationality), Hindus, what?

If, as the BBC says, Wilders is "far right", I just wonder how they would describe someone whom the average person does consider to be far right.
In view of his support in Holland, I would consider him to be in the middle ground of Dutch politics, so presumably the BBC will soon be describing Holland and the Dutch as being "far right" to fit in with their pre-conceived ideas.

I think large portions of the Dutch general public won't care about that. The fact that Wilders represents 1.5 million votes (in the last general election) shows that those people have stopped caring about those kinds of generalisations. The same way you see people in Britain or elsewhere in Europe and even in the good ol' US stop caring and start voicing their concerns on the same topics Wilders was indicted for: stop the islamisation; stop the violent (excesses of) islam. Britain has the same problems, and even worse: Britain is one of very few nations in the west where sharia courts have become relative commonplace or at least are given authority by that non-islamic nation. How long you think it will take for the British general public to put up with that? The BBC would be wise to investigate that and focus on the same phenomena that show up elsewhere in Europe, including Britain itself.

PVV has reached a critical mass, the Dutch have the opportunity to vote for a party that recognises what islam is about and hopefully it's early enough to turn the ship around. Other countries like Germany are far behind, the smallest party trying to voice their concerns are immediately marked "far right" and Germans mostly don't dare to vote for them.

Congratulations to M. Geert Wilders!

May the PVV double its seats next elections!
